Life Is NOT About . . .   it is about . . . .

You may not be able to say what good is,
but you will know when you have strayed from it
by a pain in your soul
that you feel as conscience.

Life is not about . . .

Life isn't about keeping score.

It's not about how many friends you have.
Or how accepted you are.

Not about if you have plans this weekend
or if you are alone.

It isn't about who you're dating, who you used to date,
or how many people you've dated,
or if you haven't been with anyone at all.

It isn't about who you have kissed.
It's not about sex.

It isn't about who your family is
or how much money they have,
or what kind of car you drive,
or where you are sent to school.

It's not about how beautiful or ugly you are,
or what clothes you wear,
what shoes you have on,
or what kind of music you listen to.

It's not about if your hair is blonde,
red, black, or brown.
Or if your skin is too light
or too dark.

Not about what grades you get,
how smart you are,
how smart everybody else thinks you are,
or how smart standardized tests say you are.

It's not about what clubs you're in
or how good you are at "your" sport.

It's not about representing your whole being on a piece of paper
and seeing who will accept
“the written you."

And it's not about how accepted or unaccepted you are.
Life isn't about that.

Life is not about Talents
-- Everybody has some.
A person of great talents (everyone is)
who will not give it all it takes,
will consistently achieve less
than another of fewer talents who will.

Life is not about Skills
-- Anyone can get them.
A person of great skills,
and nothing more,
will consistently perform less than a person of lower skills
who will give it all it takes.

Life is not about Luck
- - You can create yours.
Luck always finds that person
who will give it all it takes:

Life is not about Fate
-- That's a lame excuse.
Fate simply doesn't exist where
they are.

Life is not about Feelings
-- They are like clothes.
You wore one yesterday;
you chose another today.
Feelings can be chosen.

The person who gives it all
wears their feelings like a garment.
They choose them to serve their purpose.
They are their servants –
they call on them to do their bidding.
          Life IS About . . .

Life is about who you love,
and who you hurt.
It's about who you make happy,
or unhappy,

It's about how you feel about yourself.
It's about trust, happiness, and compassion.
It's about keeping or betraying trust.
It's about friendship,
used as a sanctity,
or a weapon.

  In your association with others,
  put yourself in their place.

Enter into their feelings,
their difficulties,
their disappointments,
their joys and their sorrows.

Identify yourself with them,
and then do to them as,
were you to exchange places with them,
you would wish them to deal with you.

It's about jealousy, fear, ignorance, and revenge.
And overcoming them and building confidence.

It's about what you say
and what you mean,
maybe hurtful,
maybe encouraging and elevating.

Lash out in speech or actions
when you are angry, afraid or hurt,
and you will make the best speech or actions
you will ever regret.

About starting rumors and contributing to petty gossip.
It's about what judgments you pass and why.
And who your judgments are spread to.

It's about who you've ignored
deliberately and intentionally.

It’s about grudges you hold,
and who you forgive.

It's about carrying inner hate and love,
letting it grow, and spreading it.

But most of all, it's about using your life to touch meaningfully,
or to destroy and poison meanly,
other people's hearts
in such a way that could have never occurred alone.
Only you choose the way those hearts are affected.

It's about seeing people for who they are
and not for what they have.
Most of all it is choosing
to use your life
in a way that could have never been achieved otherwise.
These choices are what life's about.

To touch the soul of another human being
is to walk on holy ground.

Pray that you make right choices,
and harm none.
People will judge you by your actions,
not your intentions.
They remember what you’ve done to them,
more than what you said.

Living with integrity means:
Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships
-  and treating others as they deserve;

Living with integrity means commitment.
Reciprocal respect, loyalty and total honesty
are the sole essences of commitment,
with no other script or agenda
– anything more is power and control.

When we respect ourselves, we can respect others;
when we have our own boundaries, we can be loyal.
When we are not in denial, we can be honest,
and when we can love ourselves,
we can finally love others.

Living with integrity means:
Asking for what you want and need from others,
and honouring their requests.

Speaking truth, even though it might create conflict or tension
– and be prepared to hear it.

Living with integrity means:
Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values
while causing no harm to others.
Making choices based on what you believe,
and not what others believe;
for we cannot do evil to others
without doing it to ourselves.

Anger makes you smaller,
while forgiveness, amends and reconciliation
cause you to grow beyond what you were.

Only the wounded heal; only the separated reconcile.
